The basic characteristics of the Fasert seal.

In many application scenarios, we often recommend the Fasert seal (also known as the spring-energized seal) to customers. Although its price is higher than that of conventional seals, its outstanding applicability makes it the preferred solution in numerous working conditions. This article will briefly introduce the basic characteristics of the Fasert seal.

Firstly, in terms of structural types, the Fasert seal can mainly be classified into the following categories: shaft Fasert seals, hole Fasert seals, shaft-hole universal Fasert seals, end face Fasert seals, and rotary Fasert seals. The common forms of the internal energy-storing springs include O-shaped springs, V-shaped springs, and helical springs (the specific names may vary depending on the region).

Regarding the material, the sealing body of the Fasert seal is mostly based on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), with various auxiliary materials added to enhance performance, such as carbon fiber, glass fiber, molybdenum disulfide, or graphite. It is worth noting that although copper powder is often used in combination with PTFE, its application in Fasert seals is relatively rare. Besides PTFE, Fasert seals can also be made from high-performance materials such as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UPE), modified PTFE, polytrifluoroethylene (PCTFE), and polyetheretherketone (PEEK).

As for the material of the internal springs, 316 stainless steel is commonly used, and 304 or 301 stainless steel, 718 alloy, or Elgiloy special alloy can also be selected based on specific requirements.

It is important to emphasize that both the sealing body material and the spring material should be comprehensively selected and matched based on the specific working conditions, such as the medium, pressure, temperature, and motion mode.
