Step Seal Installation & Maintenance Notes

• Preinstallation Inspection

Check parts:

Confirm dimensions and materials (PTFE sliding ring, Oring NBR/FKM);The PTFE sliding ring shall be free of cracks and nicks; the Oring shall be free of cuts, twists and aging.

• Key Points for Assembly Operation

Assembly Sequence

• Place the Oring fully into the bottom of the groove. Twisting or kinking of the Oring is strictly prohibited.
•  Then fit the PTFE step sliding ring.
• Orientation requirement: The raised step face of the sliding ring shall face the highpressure side, and the smooth lowstep face shall face the lowpressure side.

Postassembly Inspection

a、 Visual check: Ensure the Oring is free of twisting; the PTFE sliding ring is fully seated in the groove without edge lifting or bulging; the step orientation is correct.

b、Manually reciprocate the piston rod, no obvious sticking or binding shall occur.

三、Operating Precautions

1、Pressure: Suitable for highpressure reciprocating service, yet avoid frequent extreme pressure shocks. Excessive shock load may cause extrusion damage.

2、Temperature: Strictly follow the material temperature range. Excessive temperature will accelerate Oring aging; at low temperatures, rubber becomes hard and breakaway friction increases upon startup.

3、Medium: Confirm compatibility between Oring rubber material and hydraulic fluid. Use NBR for mineral oil; select FKM fluororubber Orings for chemicalresistant and hightemperature working conditions.

4、Matching components: A wiper seal must be fitted on the pistonrod end. In dusty environments (construction machinery, mining), lack of wiper seals will allow dust ingress and cause rapid wear of the PTFE sliding ring. Stagger the gaps of guide / backup rings; do not align the gaps with the StepSeal groove.

5、System fluid cleanliness: Contaminants in hydraulic oil are the main source of wear. Maintain the required filtration accuracy of hydraulic oil.
