The most suitable storage conditions for rubber seals

2023-06-19

Seals are usually stored as spare parts for a longer period of time. Under the influence of distortion, oxygen, ozone, light, heat, moisture, oil or solvent, etc., O-rings may fail due to changes in their physical and chemical properties. In DIN7716, ISO2230, DIN9088 and other standards, the size, cleaning and maintenance of rubber seals are basically regulated. Depending on the type of material, these standards give provisions for storage conditions and recommendations for storage periods. In order to maintain the physical and chemical properties of elastomers, please follow the following storage rules, the purpose of these principles is to maintain a most suitable storage conditions:

◆Temperature: 5°C to 25°C is the ideal storage temperature. Avoid contact with heat sources and sunlight. For seals taken out from low-temperature storage, they should be placed in an environment of 20°C for a period of time before use.

◆Humidity: The relative humidity of the warehouse should be lower than 70%, and it should be avoided from being too humid or too dry, and condensation should not occur.

◆Illumination: Avoid sunlight and strong artificial light sources containing ultraviolet rays. The UV-resistant bag provides the best protection. Red or orange paint or sunscreens are recommended for warehouse windows.

◆Radiation: Avoid damage to seals by ionizing radiation.

◆Oxygen and ozone: rubber materials should avoid exposure to circulating air. This can be achieved by wrapping, wrapping, storing in an airtight container or other suitable means. Ozone is harmful to many elastomers, and the following equipment should be avoided in the storage room: mercury vapor lamps, high voltage electrical equipment, electric motors, equipment that generate sparks or static electricity.

◆Deformation: Elastomer materials should be placed in a free state as much as possible to avoid stretching, compression or other deformation. If the elastic body in the original packaging is in a non-deformed state, the original packaging should be used as much as possible. Contact with Liquids or Semi-Solid Materials: Rubber seals should not come into contact with solvents, grease, or other semi-solid materials (unless originally packaged by the manufacturer).

Contact with metal or non-metallic materials: Do not allow contact with magnetic materials, cast iron, copper and alloys, or those containing materials that will damage rubber. Do not use PVC material to wrap the seal. Seals of different materials shall not be mixed together.

◆Cleaning: As needed, the seals can be cleaned with soap and water. But water is not allowed to touch fiber reinforced seals, rubber-metal bonded seals, and AU parts. Disinfectants, organic solvents, and tools with sharp edges are not allowed. The cleaned seals should be dried at room temperature and kept away from heat sources.
