If you have technical questions about the temperature range of the gasket or gasket material, please contact us for expert help and advice.
The following are provided only as general guidelines.
Flat and flexible washers need to work within a huge range of operating temperatures that vary depending on the environment in which they are used.
Although some materials have a wide temperature range, we can narrow the range of specific materials for different temperature environments.
This article covers: an overview of the gasket material and the average temperature range.
| What specific gasket materials are required for high temperature environments.
| What happens when the gasket is exposed to extreme high and low temperatures.
| How to rate and test gasket materials at different temperatures at present.
Many solid rubber will work at temperatures up to 120c.
The silicone and viton rubber can be used up to 300c.
With the increase of pressure, CNAF (Compressed Non-Asbestos Fibre)
The material will work well below the CUCC c.
Some flexible rubber can work at continuous temperatures up to 300cc, such as high temperature silicone, but higher temperatures will require ceramic, cloud powder and clay-based materials that can be at 500
Once you reach a continuous high temperature of about 500, the flexible aspect of the gasket is affected.
Then, use metal and compressed graphite to make seals using materials such as graphite films (
Graphite can be used for non-use up to 800cin cina
Oxidation atmosphere)
Or wrap the gasket and ring joint.
Choosing the right gasket material is critical for reliable joints and effective operation.
The chart below will help you determine which materials are most likely to maintain a temperature range in your environment.
Please also consider the chemicals and pressures that the materials will be subjected to when they are used, as this is as important as choosing a reliable sealed material.
There are many different grades and variants for each material. This is an overview of the average temperature range for each material.
Rubber properties are closely related to temperature.
Low temperature-when the rubber is exposed to low temperature, the material changes due to the rubberlike entropy-
From elastic to rigid energy
Flexible behavior.
This means that the rubber becomes very brittle and will crack at low temperatures.
Rubber is usually used for rigid glass states above, but the minimum temperature limit is not precisely defined.
In the glass state, the material is unable to restore the elastic deformation required for sealing, and the sealing capacity is compromised: the gasket is prone to cracking and leakage.
The data sheet for each material gives the upper and lower temperatures for each polymer.
When exposed to extreme high temperatures, the rubber gasket is flammable and ignited.
High temperature rubber washers can shrink, melt and Peel in the long runform.
You need to use washers that fit your environment.
If the heat is high (above +500⁰C)
It is best to choose a gasket that does not contain rubber such as graphite or cloud chips.
The use of graphite or cloud sheet washers reduces compression because they are inherently rigid (
Than rubber or other compressed polymer).
Other alternatives at high temperatures (above +500⁰C)
Especially when combined with high pressure environment, it is spiral wound gasket.
Spiral winding contains the spiral winding graphite/other filler inside the spiral winding compression ring, as well as the stainless steel or carbon steel outer ring used to keep the pressure inside the flange, when the flange is tightened, the graphite spiral wound part is compressed to form a seal.
Graphite can be oxidized at a temperature of more than 600 CUCC, and in this regard, as a compressed filler in the spiral wound part, either a cloud master or a hot ball crystal are used.
Thermiculite is not oxidized.
The combustion environment, exhaust gas and engine environment are the most common high temperature environments with temperatures typically exceeding 500c.
The most resistant gasket material the most resistant to rapid thermal degradation the gasket material is non
Asbestos mica material reinforced material with stainless steel insert.
Aromatic fiber with Ding nitrile rubber adhesive with wound metal insert, usually stainless steel or carbon steel.
Hot Ball Crystal®Rated temperature from low temperature to 1000c, unlike graphite, it has no oxidation reaction.
Other materials to consider are fireflies (
A clay-based material), mica hi-
Temperature and temperature®.

Which gasket material temperature range is largest?
Thermiculite has the largest overall range in any of the following slightly flexible gasket materials
150 for C 1000 for C.
It can be provided in paper form within Kammprofile as a filler inside the spiral wound and the ring joint.
The application of the highest rated temperature and test gasket materials is most commonly used in the following industries: Aerospace, petroleum exploration, petrochemical, industrial chemicals, fertilizers, oem and oil and gas, where the process conditions are extreme
At present, the main specific safety grade of the material used for washers and seals in high temperature environment is related to the flame retardant performance of consumer/environmental safety.
The main governing body and the standards required for the relevant materials are managed by the European group: ISO International Standards Organization and European standards organization.
Incorporate the ongoing and historical work of the German group and VDMA of the German Engineering Federation.
British Standards Agency-BSI Group
The BSI Group has covered UK standards since 1901, initially in the engineering field and now operates in 172 countries and manages standards and certifications to ensure standards for parts and products in many industries
Japanese Industrial Standards set standards for industrial activities in Japan.
The products are manufactured according to the JIS logo of Japanese industrial manufacturing standard law.
Since 2004, JES has formally revised the law, and now all Japanese products produced by certified companies will carry the JIS logo since October 2008.
ASTM American Association for Testing and Materials-an international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntarily agreed technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems and services.
UL underarms Laboratories, USA-is a global security consulting and certification company.
Provide security-
Relevant certification, validation, testing, inspection, audit and advice.
The gasket must comply with the specification when the whole unit must be tested.
If the product you produce must comply with certain legislation, the test requirements will be prescribed in accordance with the consumer/manufacturing law in a specific country.
The most common scenario is that this will be UL rating if sales are expected in the US.
Many European and American products sold by consumers will be required to comply with certain safety tests.
In this case, a specific UL rated material will be required to be used.
Thermal aging of rubber is a pioneer in many rubber tests, and ASTM D573, astm d 1056, UL50, UL48, UL508 and UL 157 all have thermal aging requirements.
UL94-the main flammable test for rubber materials is UL94.
If you are producing consumer goods, residential and commercial products, UL94 is the test grade required.
UL94 consists of 6 different flame tests, divided into two categories: Vertical and horizontal.
All approaches involve the use of standard sample sizes, controlled heat sources, and adjustment cycles before testing.
We customize washers for: UL 94 V-0, UL94V-
1, ul94 hbf, ul94 hf-1. FAR 25. 853 -
Flame test inside the aircraft.
Any area of the internal compartment occupied by the crew or passengers.
The material must be its own.
Fire out under vertical combustion test.
We offer UL rated materials in the form of silicone, silicone foam, neoprene foam and poron (urethane).
Silicone far 25. 853 include HT-
800, stored in the form of foam and solids, in the form of flakes and strips.
