by:DMS Seals     2020-06-16
This simple guide outlines the basic principles for the installation and maintenance of natural slate stone floor tiles, but due to the breadth of the subject, it does not constitute a fully in-depth document.
We are trying to show \"best practices\" when installing natural slate flooring products to achieve the desired results, be it experienced professionals or absolute beginners.
For more detailed technical reports, please refer to the UK standard BS5385 1994 wall and floor tiles.
Please remember to read carefully the manufacturer\'s instructions on any adhesive, adhesive and sealant packaging.
Please follow the golden rule of tiles to keep everything clean and dry.
Floor flooring the firmness of the floor to be tiled must be appropriate for the intended purpose.
The surface of the float must be flat, dry, clean and free of any dust, grease or loose material.
This is on both the interior and exterior floors.
When installed on sand and cement ironing plates, every 20-
If the weather conditions are bad, it will take about 1 week for 30mm of the ironing board to dry normally or longer.
Fresh ironing boards shrink during drying, which can create cracks.
If it is not dry properly before installation, this may cause the tile to crack.
Wood floor if hung, not bent, must take into account the additional load weight of natural stone tiles.
The most common way to prevent movement is to paste 18mm WBP plywood on the floor and tighten it every 140mm of the time.
Flexible adhesive and mud must be used when fixing on wood floor.
Internal installation on existing glaze, clay, stone, vinyl, felt, etc.
In a perfect world, all floor coverings and adhesives will be occupied, and the surface will be properly cleaned, but if not, the existing floor will also be well repaired, and then, in the case of removing all grease residues, natural stone tiles can be fixed on existing floors.
Existing Cork and wood floors should be completely removed.
Any asphalt left on the floor should also be removed.
Before installation, the presence or effectiveness of the moisture-proof film should be checked and installed or replaced if necessary.
During installation, uneven floors with minor bumps and dents can be leveled by applying more or less adhesive on the underside of a single tile.
In the case of very uneven floors, leveling compounds should be used.
Under-floor heating in the case of using under-floor heating, natural slate stone bricks can be laid.
Planning suggests planning tiles from the corner farthest from the main entrance.
Get the center line, measure and mark the middle of the relative Wall AB and CD.
Connect these points with strings to locate the center point.
Start at the midpoint of the center line, drop the tiles without fixing them, allow seams, and see where the last whole tile will end.
Mark a line at right angles along the last whole tile.
Position the starting point along the new line in the same way as before to see where the last block will end.
Now mark the edge line at right angles along the last whole tile.
Now check if the line includes a perfect right angle and if the edge line is parallel to the center line.
This can be between 5mm and 10mm depending on individual taste.
Make sure the tiles and floors are clean and dry.
It is recommended to apply the pva adhesive on the cement ironing board floor, or apply the acrylic adhesive on the wood floor.
Mix the tile adhesive or the fast-setting adhesive together to make sure that only enough materials are mixed for use, as materials that are not used should be discarded.
Don\'t add any more water.
Apply the adhesive to a building area of about 1m using a notch spatula.
The depth of the adhesive does not exceed 6mm.
Do not iron more adhesive than tile in 20 minutes.
Fixed in the starting position (see planning)
And firmly put the tiles in place.
All tiles should be pushed down firmly so there is no air space underneath.
Place the next tile in an adjacent position, and so on, so that there is room for grouting.
Clean any adhesive on the surface of the tile with a clean damp cloth as soon as possible.
It turns out that it is difficult to remove the fixed adhesive.
Clean all tools immediately after use.
Once the main area is completed, prepare the perimeter and adhere to the pre-
The tile can be cut as long as the adhesive is fully cured.
The adhesive must be dry for at least 24 hours before sealing and grouting, or as per the manufacturer\'s instructions.
Cutting Tinga horizontal layered diamond cutter (water fed)
Need to cut all natural slate stone bricks (
In the country-
Extensive employment center).
The correct cutting blade must be used & this will depend on the type of stone used. (
Advise the Rental Center).
This process will need to be renewed.
Clean the tiles due to the inevitable dust.
All adhesives must be dry before grouting.
Normal drying time is 12-
24 hours, 4 hours of drying time is usually sufficient unless a fast set adhesive is used.
Both thicker adhesive layers and colder temperatures slow down the drying time.
Make sure all joints are clean and dry.
When the adhesive is set, gently wipe the floor with a large sponge to remove the inevitable dust on the tile.
Do not soak the floor with water.
The floor must be completely dry before any sealant can be applied to the floor.
We recommend that the floor remain dry for as long as possible to ensure that the tiles are fully dry to prevent any moisture from being sealed during the sealing process.
One layer of the recommended slate protector ,(
Please call our suggestion if not sure)
, This will vary depending on the product being laid & should be applied with a small sponge roller which will act as a dipping agent and prevent the mud from polluting the tiles.
Depending on the void degree of the slate, a coating should be applied.
30-leave dry
60 minutes before grouting or completely dry.
This bottom layer treatment absorbs into the slate, reducing the porosity of the slate and helping to prevent staining.
We recommend filling the seams by diffusion or \"slurry process.
The surface of the tile must be kept as clean as possible.
Since air is not allowed to remain in the seam, the grouting must be pushed down firmly and all seams are filled.
The more grouting is used, the harder it is to set.
It is essential to remove excess grouting continuously with a damp cloth or sponge.
Keep dry for at least 24 hours.
After grouting, make sure the ground is clean and dry.
In order to remove any very stubborn Grout residues that may be particularly difficult to remove from the highly textured slate, cement and lime film remover should be used.
Please call us for advice as it affects the look if the wrong remover is used. (Very important).
The overall strength of the floor depends on the quality of the grouting, which must support the edges of all the tiles.
Sealing natural slate tiles is almost free when properly sealed.
It is highly recommended that all natural stone floors be sealed and allow for drying before use.
Before sealing, make sure all areas are clean and dry, otherwise the dirt and humidity will be sealed.
Apply the recommended sealant 24 hours after grouting and apply with a small sponge roller.
Do not pour the sealant on it, the uniform application will create a better look.
It is recommended to work in 1m area at a time.
We recommend 1 application according to the void degree of the slab.
Dry for about 2 hours.
Repeat the application if required.
Dry for about 24 hours depending on room temperature.
The external installation of natural stone tiles is porous, therefore, when the pawnshop is located outside, there is a risk of moisture being absorbed, and if extreme cold temperatures persist, the tiles may be damaged by frost.
By using the correct sealer, the risk of damage is minimized.
Maintain the above sealant to protect the slate by forming a barrier against dirt and stains, but not the stain prevention system.
All sealing devices on the market will usually be in 4-
8 hours, it is critical to clear the acidic liquid/food immediatelye.
Red wine, orange juice, vinegar, oil, tea, coffee, otherwise dirty the floor.
It is essential to maintain protection.
The harsh cleaning agent will erode the finish and should not be used.
The properly recommended maintenance cleaner will clean and extend the life of the protective surface finish applied.
We recommend cleaning the floor with a light brush instead of Hoover as this can scratch the surface of the tile & we also recommend wiping the floor once a month based on walking flow.
When mopping the ground, clean the mop bucket as often as possible, and the highly textured slate holds dirt and dirt better than any smooth finished product.
In the long run, the cleaner the water is, the better the floor looks.
If the floor is recommended-
